Long story short, I wasn't happy with the stock 302+turbo thing, and chasing down someone else's mistakes/overlooks. So I tore the mustang apart and decided to put my own engine in. I started a 408w stroker build, but found a really awesome steal on a SCAT 331. So I sold the few parts I had for the 408 and bought the 331. I have everything here except the intake gaskets. So I started putting everything together today.

The run down on parts-
SCAT 331 stroker kit, in stock block(I'm going to see how long it last's. I already have a DSS Level 20XR on stand by)
Edelbrock Vic Jr heads, o-ringed, 60cc domes, 210cc runners, 2.02/1.60 valves
SCE ICS Titan head gaskets in a 4.06' bore, and 0.080' compressed thickness
Scorpion 1.6RR
Lunati Turbo cam(I lost the spec sheet but it somewhere around a .609 lift)
Canton 7quart oil pan
ARP hardware from top to bottom
ETC,ETC,ETC
I had a windage tray, and main girdle both. But I could only use one so I stuck with the main girdle.
We put new rod, and cam bearings in today. Along with switching out the cam, and main girdle. Tomorrow we should have everything finished, and have it in the car. I am just waiting on my intake mani gaskets, which should come in Thursday. I had some already, but I didn't think about the heads being so much bigger. The gasket hung over the port by about a quarter inch or more. I went with the FelPro 1262 gasket.

I didn't think about taking pics until most of the stuff was already done. I will take more tomorrow. We are pulling the 302 out and switching the water pump, alternator, balancer, and oil pan bolts over to the new block.

Here are the few pics I did take. Sorry for the poor picture taking skills.....
Main Girdle-

I took this pic right after I got it from the shipping company. If you can't tell it rolled around quite a bit on the way home....

The goods. And yes we are putting it together in my already trashed living room.

Edelbrock Vic Jr intake. I half-assed polished the outside, and the inside has a little porting as well

After we installed the main girdle....

I'm new at engine building, but I thought you could use a windage tray, and girdle at the same time. We couldnt figure out how to use both so I took a pic of the tray. If you think I can use both, please give me some input.....

Pulling the old cam out....

I tried to get a side by side pic of the new and old cam, but it didn't turn out good. The turbo cam being on the left

Test fitting the pan...

More pics will come tomorrow, and hopefully a running video by the weekend.

I'm taking my time putting it together. I really don't want to over look something, and it cost me greatly later on. Most of the things slowing me down right now is forgetting to order stuff. Like the .99 cent oil pump gasket, the right intake gaskets, and a timing cover gasket. Along with the head studs, and dip stick getting lost during shipping. So I had to reorder those things. I haven't seen the title yet.

glad to see you're not getting rid of the stang Jake. Looks like you're doing a good job at correcting things now. Sucks that the turdblow is so ugly at the moment, but that can be fixed.

Everything should be bolted on tomorrow, and sitting in the car, minus the intake manifold. Now that I remembered to take pics, I will snap some of each step. Mainly to help me out so that way if something messes up I can come back and read this thread to see what it could be. LOL

Luckily the turbo is just stained. I wiped most of it off with a damp paper towel. IF I have enough time while waiting on the intake gaskets, I may just go ahead and polish it also. I don't know that I have enough patience for that right now though.

I would say that the polishing will be an absolute PITA if you do decide to go that route. I was just going to see if you were planning on cleaning it up lol...I know exactly how annoying it is to polish stuff. Good luck with everything, I hope it turns out better this time around.

Childs sells some bad ass acid that will make it look like NEW. Spray on and wash off. It does great on most any metal. Chrome wheels it does OMG great. Bye Bye brake dust with no effort. Try it and you will love it.

Your build is looking good!

Thanks guys.

Any and all input is welcomed. This is my first engine build, and I don't really consider it a build. Just bolting everything together. I have found that for every part being put on, I am researching online for an hour or two to make sure it was a good pick, and how to install the item.

Today the SCE ICS Titan's, and ARP head studs came in. So now all I am waiting on is the intake gaskets.

We got the old 302 out after about 3.5 hours of fighting it. Then our engine puller decided to be a bitch. So we wasted another couple hours chasing one down. I also took the time to clean the piss out of the engine bay, and firewall. So the engine was finally out of the car after dark. After that we had to take the water pump, altenator, timing cover bolts, oil pan bolts, and oil pump shaft off to put on the new block. We also got the stall and flex plate off, but not on the new engine yet. I found out some good news....The car came with some type of stall, and flexplate. So it saved me some money. I took a couple pics, but I will upload them tomorrow sometime. If all goes well it should be bolted up mid morning tomorrow. My intake gaskets will be in by noon, so it should be running tomorrow afternoon. That's if everything goes right. Which it never does for me. LOL

Just like expected something didn't go right. Turned out that the flexplate, and harmonic balancer I had were 50oz, and I needed a 28oz. So after a long discussion with Summit(they wanted to argue and tell me what I needed) I got the parts next day aired to me. Well the parts came in this morning and the idiot at Summit sent me the wrong plate AND balancer. He sent an internal plate, a 50oz harmonic balancer, and neither were SFI approved. They had the right ones sent out and they will be here in the morning. I just hope this time the parts are right.
