350z vs 335i

On the way home from watching the UFC I happen upon a white 350z. We both get on the interstate and I figure it is time to pick a fight in the 335i baby carrier, so when the 350z driver guns it to get on the interstate I roll on the 429 pounds feet of torque to pull by him.
I tap the brakes and slow down and to my surprise the 350z pulls alongside to set a pull from about a 60 roll. I put 3 fingers up and the driver actually seems to know what I am doing. I give 3 honks but he jumps putting about a car length on me but the 335i puts a few on him by the end of the 1st pull to about 120.
Round 2 we line the up again and he waits for the full 3 honks and the 335i puts many on the z by 120mph.
That was the 1st time out in the 335i other than the dream I had running Nelson in the Mustang 500 GT Ford was nice enough to loan him for the week. The M3 ~260hp and 3000lbs had mixed results with z’s over the years. David’s would pull it but Nelson’s would not. So, it was interesting to see the new car just pull like crazy on the Z.

was there any question on the 335 v a 350z? Lol
The hpfp issue was fixed but I thought I was going to have to call BMWNA to make them do it.
I had no doubt the 335i was going to do it in a big way, but what is the use of a sleeper if you give an a$$whipping out from time to time to people that think they are just going to pull you.
The bad part was he had his girl friend in the car, so that part was probably unfair...

Both cars have about 400hp but yours is at least 500lbs lighter than mine, so I think the Vett would pull it. I don't know how to factor my torque in. I would think I have a little more torque (429).

A little more torque, but a lot more under the curve. Twin turbos with a tune make for full-on torque from about 2,500 rpm through 5,500 rpm. The 350 does a similar curve, but about 150 pound-feet lower down the graph. The Z06 is peakier, pulling full torque from about 4,500-5,500 rpm, though it's about the same as the tuned 335i. That means you have considerably more applied horsepower to the wheels from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm.
The Z06 would probably win from a dig, because it's lighter, and has longer gears. The Dinan 335i will win every time from a roll barring driver error.
This is why drag racing is no fun to me. You might as well just hand each other dyno charts and go straight to the beer drinking.

Haha. If that was true 11s supras would own low 9 second fbodies or mustangs. Lol

I defer to your experience, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to take weight, area under the curve and basic physics to pre-determine the winner, assuming drivers are roughly equal. Far fewer variables in straight stuff.
And I really meant street racing, not actual drag-strip stuff. More variables once you start talking suspension mods, tires, etc. Street car vs. street car on the freeway, it's all math assuming no one fucks up.

And this is exactly why people lie about power and weight
but yes, roll racing is usually pretty easy to guess how it will go. Although, sometimes automatic transmissions can really make a mess of the predictions. Take for instance, the 99-04 mustang GT.
One thing that never gets considered is cars with horrible shifters. My car is about impossible to quickly shift to 5th gear, which is why I just don't bother usually. By that speed, the race should be over anyways.

It's like putting salt on chocolate ice cream and calling it a new flavor. It's not. It's just salty chocolate. - theduke
